About the Opportunity
Green Tractors is currently looking for enthusiastic and self-motivated Agricultural, Turf or Small Engine Equipment Technicians to join our teams in Halton, Brampton, Nobleton, Port Perry, Omemee, Orono, Kingston, and Earlton, ON on a full-time basis.
The Agricultural Equipment Technician is responsible for inspecting agricultural machinery and conducting preventative maintenance and repairs, based on a strong working knowledge of farm machinery and gasoline, diesel and electrically powered motors.
The Turf Equipment Technician is responsible for inspecting lawn & garden tractors, utility tractors and utility vehicles and conducting preventative maintenance and repairs, based on a strong working knowledge of gasoline, diesel and electrically powered motors.
The Small Engine Repair Technician under the direction of the Service Manager will primarily be responsible for inspecting, testing, maintaining and repairing a variety of small engines, including gas, diesel and electric.
While no two days will ever be alike in this role, your more typical responsibilities will include:
Agricultural Equipment Technician and Turf Equipment Technician
- Testing to check whether systems and components are secure and are working properly, isolating the ones that might have caused the problem as well as testing and adjusting repaired systems to the manufacturer's performance specifications
- Operating equipment for testing purposes or diagnosis using various equipment, including hand-held and onboard compression gauges or diagnostic computers
- Closely monitoring or inspecting parts like hoses, belts, plugs, fuel systems, brakes, and other possible troublesome items as well as mechanical units, such as engines, transmissions, axles and brake systems to locate faults and malfunctions
- Reviewing work orders and discussing work with the supervisor
- Advising customers on work performed, general equipment condition and future repair requirements
- Diagnosing faults or malfunctions and confirming findings with the supervisor to determine whether to repair or replace the unit
- Performing work at customer locations and completing reports to record problems and work performed
Small Engine Technician
- Consulting manufacturer’s manuals, circuit diagrams and blueprints to determine test and maintenance procedures for engines
- Inspecting and testing the operation of the engine, diagnosing faults using pneumatic, electrical and electronic testing devices and precision measuring instruments
- Calibrating components and instruments according to manufacturers’ specifications
- Repair or replace defective parts such as magnetos, water pumps, gears, pistons, and carburettors, using hand tools
- Reassembling engines after repair or maintenance work is complete as well as recording repairs made, time spent, and parts used
- Perform scheduled maintenance service on equipment
More About You
In order to qualify for these roles, you must have completed High School Diploma or GED equivalent. You must also have exceptional customer service, communication and problem-solving skills along with a valid driver's license and clean abstract and previous related technical experience.
The following will be key to performing these roles:
- Experience in any of the following industries - Ag, Landscaping, Heavy Duty, Truck and Coach mechanic, Turf, Small Engines, Mining or Construction
- Extensive knowledge of various types of equipment and their service needs
- Stihl equipment repair an asset (required for Small Engine Technicians)
- Strong understanding of the operation, maintenance and repair of engines
- Ability to learn new technology and repair and service procedures and specifications
- Proficiency with computers and electronic diagnostic equipment
- Technician trade certification (asset)
- Agricultural Equipment Technician trade certification (asset)
- Graduates from John Deere TECH schools (asset)
- Red Seal endorsement (asset)
